The organisers of the 14th annual Oxford Postgraduate Conference in Assyriology invite proposals for papers for our next conference, which will take place at Wolfson College, Oxford on the 23rd-24th of March 2026. We welcome proposals from postgraduate students whose research sits within Assyriology or pertains to cuneiform culture and its reception.
This year's conference will be themeless, so we welcome talks about any topic within cuneiform cultures that you are currently researching!
ABSTRACT DEADLINE: Friday 21st November 2025
You will be notified whether your proposal has been accepted by the 30th of November.
The main aim of the conference is to provide a forum for students at the postgraduate level to present their research to a group of peers and establish connections across disciplinary and geographical borders. Therefore, proposals from those beyond the postgraduate level (i.e., beyond the PhD) will not be considered.
Abstracts
The abstract submission deadline is 21st November 2025. Please submit your proposed paper title and a brief abstract (250 words), noting your institutional affiliation and course of study, to opcaassyriology@gmail.com
We invite abstracts for both short papers (20 minutes) and long papers (up to 30 minutes) - please indicate in your abstract which of these you are applying for.
Modes of Attendance
Attendance and presentation will be possible either in-person or online. Virtual presentations will be pre-recorded. All presentations and pre-recordings are to be with us two weeks before the conference dates.
Please indicate your planned mode of attendance in your abstract.
Bursaries
As with previous years, we intend to provide three bursaries for travel and accommodation for participants attending from within and outside of the UK. An accomodation bursary will give you free accommodation in Wolfson College for the nights of 22nd, 23rd, and 24th of March. A travel bursary will reimburse you after the conference for part or all of your travel costs, up to £200 per person.
If you wish to apply for a bursary for travel and accommodation, please send us your application in the same email as your abstract, as a separate document. This must include a CV, and a description of your need for the bursary.
