The organisers of the 13th annual Oxford Postgraduate Conference in Assyriology are delighted to announce the dates of our next conference: 17th - 18th March 2025. We warmly invite all UK, European, and overseas students whose research pertains to Assyriology and related fields to join us at Wolfson College, Oxford for the event.

The conference's theme will be: šu bala: Change and Continuity in the Ancient Near East
ABSTRACT DEADLINE: 6th January 2025
šu bala: Change and Continuity in the Ancient Near East
The main aim of the conference is to provide a forum for students at the postgraduate level to present their research to a group of peers and establish connections across disciplinary and geographical borders.
With our theme, we aim to explore enduring traditions and moments of change in the long history of Ancient Near Eastern societies, through the lenses of linguistics, archaeology, literature, iconography, and more.
Papers might but need not relate to the following topics:
Textual and manuscript traditions
Change and continuity in language
Political structures and evolving systems of governance
New technologies
Iconography and material culture
Environmental change
Religion and Ritual
Mesopotamian perceptions of continuity
Abstracts
The abstract submission deadline is 6th January 2025. Please submit your proposed paper title and a brief abstract (250 words) to opcaassyriology@gmail.com. Papers are to be 20 minutes followed by a plenary panel discussion.
Modes of Attendance
Attendance and presentation will be possible either in-person or online. Virtual presentations will be pre-recorded. All presentations and pre-recordings are to be with us two weeks before the conference dates.
Bursaries
We intend to provide a limited number of bursaries for travel and/or accommodation for participants attending from within and outside of the UK. More information will be provided about the number of bursaries and the application process for a bursary in due course.
